King on AP Dhillon's ground-breaking guitar performance at Coachella: As an artist, he is misunderstood

Rapper King responds to AP Dhillon's widely shared guitar-breaking performance at Coachella 2024 and discusses his partnership with Jason Derulo on Bumpa

Reactions to AP Dhillon's act of shattering the guitar on stage during the Coachella performance last month were not quite unanimous. While some compared it to the act of some pop and rock singers smashing instruments during live performances, some music enthusiasts and internet users found the Punjabi pop sensation's performance offensive since they thought it was "disrespectful" to break an instrument.

When you inquire about King's thoughts on it, the rapper-singer exposes the critics' hypocrisy:“Many people are like, ‘Let’s just hate AP, because it’s in trend’. If you feel what he did was wrong, then be the bigger person and forgive him. hose criticising him are the same people who will be making reels on his song, saying, 'woah, it's the best'. If you don't like what he did, don't call him the best. I feel AP is really misunderstood as an artiste.”

The musician continues by discussing the excitement an artist experiences while playing at a festival such as Coachella:“If I think from AP's perspective, not everyone can understand the adrenaline that an artiste feels when they go on stage. No one knows Coachella ke stage par jaake kya hota hai. Diljit (Dosanjh; singer-actor, who performed at Coachella in 2023) paaji and AP ne kya feel kiya hoga, kya adrenaline raha hoga, yeh samajhna mushkil hai. AP ne bhi ek visual dekha hoga ki jab stage par jaunga, yeh karoonga, woh karoonga. As an artiste on stage, you don't worry about the consequences.”

In the meantime, King and musician Jason Derulo recently collaborated on the song Bumpa. He collaborated on Maan Meri Jaan (Afterlife) with singer Nick Jonas last year. Does he believe that an artist's standing abroad increases their significance in their own country of India? King responds,“While some people think I am worthy, some don't.”
