UAE: Top 3 locations with the most rain last week

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reports that during the recent rain event in the United Arab Emirates, the Al Dhafrah district of Abu Dhabi got the most rainfall on May 2.

The UAE was pounded by strong thunderstorms and rain last Thursday, which prompted the NCM to issue an orange advisory. While students shifted to distant learning, other residents remained at home. Those who ventured outside in the early morning hours encountered heavy rain and wind.

Hazy rain clouds lingered above the mountains to the north, where waterfalls burst out.

Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi recorded the most precipitation, according to Dr. Habib, a meteorologist at the NCM, who was speaking with Khaleej Times.

"The rainfall that was observed in the Al Dhafrah area was noteworthy," he stated. It came to 72.3 mm. This amount of rainfall is noteworthy. Subsequently, the districts of Majil Bada Thalab and Abu Al-Abyad saw rainfall of 67.9 mm and 58.5 mm, respectively.

How similar are the two instances of rain?
It's important to remember, though, that the rain that fell on May 2 in the United Arab Emirates was not as heavy as it was on April 16, and that any major weather disasters are unlikely to occur anytime soon.

The majority of the country saw an improvement in weather conditions by Friday, May 3, with clear skies.

The NCM released statistics on rainfall in various parts of the nation during the rainy spell from May 1 to May 2, 2024, following the conclusion of the Ghadir depression's influence on the United Arab Emirates last weekend.
Interestingly, the amount of precipitation observed in the Al Dhafrah region during the Ghadir depression in May is considered unusually high.

During the rainy week, 38.1mm of rain fell on Expo 2020 in Dubai.

According to Dr. Habib, depressions affecting the area from the east and west will lessen the impact of the Siberian high pressure throughout this month. Cloud cover tends to rise in conjunction with these depressions and the spread of westerly upper air troughs, "raising the likelihood of light to medium rain, potentially heavy in only southern and eastern regions," he continued.
