Andrew Tate Detained Overnight Following Romanian Police Raid

Influencer Andrew Tate was remanded in custody overnight after Romanian authorities conducted a raid on his home amid fresh allegations. Both Andrew and his brother Tristan were taken in for questioning by Romania's serious crime agency, DIICOT, as police executed searches on their properties.

Already awaiting trial on charges of rape and human trafficking, the controversial social media figure now faces additional accusations of engaging in sexual activity with minors, trafficking underage persons, money laundering, and attempting to manipulate witnesses, according to Romanian prosecutors. Both brothers have consistently denied all charges brought against them.

The Tates were first arrested in Romania in December 2022 but were released from house arrest in August 2023. Wednesday’s raid saw four homes searched in the capital, Bucharest, and Ilfov County, with the brothers being transported to DIICOT’s headquarters for further interrogation. Following their questioning, they were placed in custody for a 24-hour period under armed guard.

Their lawyer revealed that the brothers are being held temporarily while prosecutors decide whether to request extended detention, revert them to house arrest or release them. When questioned about the new accusations, Andrew Tate told reporters that prosecutors were "desperate" and described the case file as "more pathetic than the first."

Earlier that day, a crowd of reporters and supporters greeted the brothers upon their arrival at DIICOT’s Bucharest office. Andrew Tate, smiling, told a local blogger he wasn’t sure why he was brought back for questioning. As he entered the building, he shouted that DIICOT was his "favorite place." Two masked officers were also seen carrying large sacks into the same building, likely containing evidence collected during the property searches.

When asked about the latest developments, the Tate brothers' lawyer, Eugen Vidineac, said he had yet to examine the case file and thus was unclear about the specific allegations. He expressed uncertainty about what new information the authorities were pursuing. Officers at DIICOT have a 24-hour window to interrogate the brothers. If they wish to keep them detained beyond this period, they will need to present their case to a judge.

Despite the latest developments, the lawyer does not anticipate extended detention, given the Tates' current legal restrictions as they await trial on earlier charges, including involvement in an organized crime group and human trafficking.

Responding to the raid, Andrew Tate took to X (formerly Twitter), posting, "The Matrix is real. And they have a tried and true playbook. Slander is their number one tool and the process is the punishment. But unfortunately for them, Good always wins in the end."

Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist, has been banned from various social media platforms for his controversial and offensive statements. He has repeatedly maintained that Romanian prosecutors lack substantial evidence against him and that he is the victim of a coordinated conspiracy to silence him.

The Tate brothers, former professional kickboxers who hold dual UK-US citizenship, are accused of exploiting women through an adult content business that prosecutors allege operated as a criminal organization. Two female Romanian associates were also named in the indictment, which was published in June last year, and seven alleged victims were identified in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, UK authorities are reportedly pursuing separate sexual offense allegations involving the Tate brothers, which are unrelated to the current Romanian case.

The situation continues to evolve as Romanian authorities assess the new accusations, while the Tate brothers await further legal proceedings on their previous charges.
